Takashi Ikura
Born 1962 in Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
Graduated 1989 Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center.
Takashi Ikura pieces are made from carefully carved thick porcelain, he takes many weeks on each piece, as he also works in the family industrial ceramic firm. The pieces are complex and stark, Ikura is interested in the organic and the inorganic, his works balance between the natural and industrial world. In 2021, Ikura won the Grand Prize at the Kikuchi Biennale IX at the Museum Tomo. His work is in the National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
