1951 Born in Ogiwara-cho, Gifu
Hyoe Imai is a a native of Gifu prefecture, but he was born in Hagiwara-cho Masuda-gun and not in Mino, the pottery centre of the Gifu Area. He started making pottery urged by a ‘need to create’ He molds his pieces into shapes usually by mixing several different types of clay. He particularly likes the fiery red colour of his creations which he enhances with a black glaze. He has won many prizes in Japan and his work is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, USA.
